Abstract
Woman and Woman's Social Status in the Novel 'Bereketli Topraklar Üzerinde'
This article deals with the fact that woman image appears as a merely sexual object, without a social status, including working woman image at factory or village in ‘Bereketli Topraklar Üzerinde’ by Orhan Kemal. The articles on woman have been investigated, and woman’s social status has been explored. Several scholars have worked on woman issues. Orhan Kemal has considered woman as a merely sexual object in this novel. The women figures in this novel has one feature in common: they are overwhelmed by their sexual desires. Surely, there are triggering reasons for this. This study invesigates these reasons as well as presenting opinions on the social status of woman.
